Everybody needs to de-stress and relax physically as well as mentally. Some enrol for meditation retreats; others go to
exorbitantly priced counsellors, while many take to nicotine, alcohol, anti anxiety pills or worse still – get addicted to drugs. Try experimenting with the following pick-me-up sequel to refresh, refuel and cheer up. (more…)
Yesterday morning at 4.40 am i went for my 10.5 km run, and it was bit of a blue morning. First km was drudgery and most of the next 9 kms I had to bit of drag myself. There was time and again an urge to quit. Only last 1.5 kms i enjoyed running. (more…)
Eden Gardens – Feb 18th, 2010
My brother and I were seated at the Club House watching the 5th day of test match between RSA & India. It turned out to be yet another memorable outing to Eden Gardens, the Mecca of cricket in the subcontinent.
However being a bit of a health freak i struggled to find something worth munching. Branded potato wafers, popcorns, patties, sweet tea, colas and ice creams were all that were available. The passion for the game amidst the spectators at Eden is almost unparalleled across continents, but sadly the food available is that much gross. I started smoking with one particular friend, once-in-a-while to give him company and then alone to help me ‘relax’. Somehow the addiction caught on. I was literally living on tea, coffee and cigarettes. I would smoke two cigarettes at a time and would even get up 2-3 times in the middle of the night to smoke and fall of asleep. The grip of nicotine is no less than that of crack cocaine. I had severely hurt my lungs, psyche, brain cells, self image and relationships. I was unable to look at myself in the mirror and had kind of isolated myself. (more…)
I joined a monastic community at the age of 24 and found the monastic life too sedentary. There was a huge mismatch between my metabolic rate and the life style on offer. There was little emphasis on vigorous exercising and the result was sloppy consciousness rather than soul consciousness that the monks supposedly were striving for. Always a rebel, i took to running, and once i said goodbye to monastic life at 30, my running habits were further frowned upon. In retrospect i can only laugh over it. (more…)
An image is an inner representation of our experience or our fantasies – a way our mind codes, stores and expresses information. Imagery is a flow of thoughts you can see, hear, smell or taste. It is the language of our emotions, of our deeper selves. Imagery is the window of our inner world, a way of viewing our own ideas, feelings and interpretations. It is also a means of transformation and liberation from distortions in this realm (more…)
